Pumpkins and squash are grown by digging the earth, planting and nurturing the green shoots that become beautiful pumpkins.

In addition, there is a great attraction and the gruesome Haunted House, the Heritage House hosts a night of story telling, pumpkin carving and a unique event in which the pumpkins are lit and sent down the river on a craft (heritagepetaluma.com). If that isn't enough excitement, downtown Petaluma merchants are hosting a Trick or Treat Trail on Oct. 31.
